Deciding how to visualize a set of numbers usually means opening the Insert tab, picking a chart type, and hoping it looks right once it's built.
Excel has a shortcut that skips the guesswork by previewing several options at once, right where your data already is.
Here's the trick:
Select your data and the Quick Analysis icon appears in the corner — one click previews charts, totals and formats.
How to use it
- Select the data range you want to work with.
- Click the small Quick Analysis icon that appears at the bottom-right of the selection, or press Ctrl+Q.
- Choose a tab: Formatting, Charts, Totals, Tables, or Sparklines.
- Hover over any option to preview it applied to your actual data, then click to insert it.
Where it helps most
Quickly previewing several chart types or summary formulas side by side, without building each one manually just to see which one actually fits the data.
One thing to watch for
It works on the selected range only — if your data has extra blank columns mixed in, select just the relevant part first for a cleaner preview.
