Updates: Special cards, promos and rating changes arrive every week
The honest answer to "who is the best card?" is that it depends on your position, your budget and how you play. This page lists the highest-rated base cards at launch and what makes each stand out. It will go out of date as special cards and promos arrive, so treat it as a starting point, not a final ranking.
Worth knowing:
Figures come from EA's launch ratings as reported by several rating sites. Sources differ by a point on a few defenders, so I've left those out. There are no prices here — they move by the hour.

By position
- Striker: Mbappé, Haaland and Kane. Choose Mbappé for pace, Kane for pure finishing.
- Wide attackers: Yamal, Dembélé and Olise. All three have dribbling in the 90s.
- Midfield: Rodri for a defensive anchor, Pedri and Vitinha to run the game, and Bellingham if you want a box-to-box option.
- Goalkeeper: Courtois at 90.
- Defenders: Gabriel, Willian Pacho, William Saliba and Marquinhos are among the top-rated centre-backs at launch, in the high 80s to around 90.
Hall of FUT: the budget-friendly meta
Hall of FUT is a set of 21 special items. Nine of them are rated 85: Balotelli, Błaszczykowski, Fellaini, Hulk, David Luiz, Pato, Micah Richards, Valencia and Walcott. Their appeal is pace and dribbling at a level base cards don't reach for the money — Walcott has 96 pace and Błaszczykowski 93, while Pato pairs 90 pace with 85 shooting. One tier list puts Pato, Hulk, Doumbia and Ibarbo at the top, but that's one site's opinion, so test any card in a friendly before you commit.
How to choose a card
- Pace and dribbling win one-on-ones. This year's Off-Balance Dribbling rewards Balance, Agility and Dribbling, so check those, not just the overall.
- Skill moves matter. A player can only perform moves at or below their star rating, so a 5-star dribbler opens up the whole move list.
- PlayStyles help, but less. EA reduced the gap between PlayStyles and base attributes, so a high stat now counts for more than an icon on the card.
- Roles. Every special card automatically gets Role++ in its primary and secondary roles, so a special card is more flexible than a base one.
- Ratings alone aren't a ranking. A 90 with the wrong build can feel worse than an 85 that fits your team.
