Alan Wake secret room

The biggest secret is a hidden live-action recording. You don't need to solve a puzzle, beat a boss or finish a side story to see it, but you do need a specific traversal ability, and the entrance is easy to miss because it's reached from a rooftop.

  1. Get the Reach traversal ability, which you unlock in the Incursion Fault mission.
  2. Go to Evacuation Zone 4, at the Railyard Street Station, and head south down the road until you reach an Altered Camera location (part of the Freeze Frame side story).
  3. Climb to the rooftop where the Altered Camera sits. The entrance to the apartment is reached from up there, behind the Altered Camera encounter, not from the street.
  4. Go through the door into a dark hallway and walk toward the light at the end.
  5. Interact with the TV to play the recording, The Master of Many Worlds: two figures move through the dark with flashlights, one is revealed as Alan Wake working as a nightwatchman and delivering a monologue about his lack of sleep, accompanied by Alex Casey from Alan Wake 2.

Spotting it. One guide describes what to look for as you look down from the roof: a red carpet on the floor below, a door next to it with blood on the nearby walls, and a blinking lamp beside the door. Inside, the apartment is messy, with drawings scrawled over the walls.

What you see. The monologue is interrupted by a few jump scares, then the scene cuts to Wake and Casey dancing. Afterwards the recording is saved in your Archives, under the Nightwatchman section, so you can watch it again.

The title echoes the line Wake says at the end of Alan Wake 2's final story, and fans are reading it as a possible tease for a third game.

What it means. The apartment resembles the twisted, otherworldly version of Wake's home from the Dark Place in Alan Wake 2, and the recording's language hints that the Dark Place may be pushing into the corruption spreading through Manhattan. Some outlets read it as a possible tease for Alan Wake 3, but nothing has been confirmed.

The Nerv skyscraper (Evangelion)

In the distance of the open-world city, one inconspicuous concrete skyscraper has a logo above it that strongly resembles the Nerv emblem from Neon Genesis Evangelion. It carries the name “Verconn”: the text isn't an exact copy, but the font, layout and letter shapes are close enough that players noticed it before the game came out, and one observer suggested the logo may be a blend of the Nerv and Control logos. You see it from a distance rather than going inside.

It fits what the director has said: Mikael Kasurinen has named Evangelion, Twin Peaks and Attack on Titan as influences on the game.

The Twin Peaks marquee

  • The Twin Peaks marquee. A cinema marquee in the city displays "Fix your heart or die", a line from Twin Peaks: The Return (2017). The sources describe it by appearance rather than exact street, so keep an eye on theaters as you explore.

Ahti the Janitor and the Oceanview postcard

Ahti is the mysterious janitor from the first Control, where he hands Jesse a Walkman with an Old Gods of Asgard tape already loaded. He also turns up in Alan Wake 2, which is why this small secret works as a wink to both games.

To find it in Resonant, finish the game and unlock Dylan's apartment during the epilogue, then look on one of the shelves for a postcard called “Season's Greetings.” It shows Ahti posing in front of an Oceanview Hotel and Casino sign, a location that recurs across both the Control and Alan Wake games.

Poets of the Fall and Old Gods of Asgard: are they in Control Resonant?

Poets of the Fall are a real Finnish band who have worked with Remedy since Max Payne 2 in 2003. In Alan Wake they play a fictional in-game band, Old Gods of Asgard, and in the first Control they returned with “Take Control” (credited to Old Gods of Asgard) plus the song “My Dark Disquiet.”

In Control Resonant, we couldn't confirm either way. One music feature published before release said a Poets of the Fall or Old Gods of Asgard appearance is likely given their shared history with Remedy, but that was an expectation, not an announcement. If it turns out to be there, this is the page to update.
