After years of fan requests, Epic Games has officially confirmed a Fortnite crossover with Five Nights at Freddy's, ending months of leaks and speculation. It headlines this year's Fortnitemares — Fortnite's annual Halloween event, now in its 10th edition — and launches October 1, 2026.

How we got here

Rumors had circulated since early September, when dataminers found Five Nights at Freddy's files bundled into a Fortnite update. Around the same time, players spotted a building under construction north of The Battlewoods on the map, styled like the Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria seen in the Five Nights at Freddy's movies. Epic and the Freddy Fazbear's team kept the partnership officially under wraps until this week, when a 40-second teaser trailer confirmed it outright.

The wait made sense: Five Nights at Freddy's creator Scott Cawthon has said in the past that he's very careful about collaborations, wanting to “make sure that Five Nights at Freddy's stays as Five Nights at Freddy's,” which had led many fans to assume a Fortnite crossover was off the table entirely. A 2024 anniversary tease that many expected to be this exact crossover turned out to be a Dead by Daylight collaboration instead.

What's confirmed so far

  • Release date: October 1, 2026, launching early that morning alongside the main Fortnitemares 2026 update.
  • Four skins based on the animatronics' classic 2014 designs: Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy. The Freddy skin appears to be reactive, and may include a “withered” variant styled after the deteriorated designs from Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
  • A full Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria location opens on the Fortnite island, replacing the teased building near The Battlewoods.
  • Cosmetics beyond skins: dedicated Back Bling items, and a pair of Freddy Fazbear-themed Kicks (Fortnite's shoe cosmetic slot) shown in the trailer.
  • A possible survival mode: the trailer shows characters surviving a night shift at the Pizzeria while the animatronics attack — strongly implied, though Epic hadn't formally confirmed a dedicated mode by name at time of writing.
  • Music: the trailer's score has fans speculating about involvement from The Living Tombstone, the group behind some of the best-known Five Nights at Freddy's fan songs — not officially confirmed either way.

The reveal broke a Fortnite record

Fortnite's announcement post on X passed 18 million impressions and over 312,000 likes, edging out the previous record held by a Dragon Ball Z collaboration reveal — notable given Dragon Ball has decades more history than Five Nights at Freddy's, which only began in 2014.

The bigger picture

This lands in the middle of Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, “Override,” a season already stacked with crossovers including Kingdom Hearts, Mega Man, Persona 5 Royal, Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon. Five Nights at Freddy's joins a long line of horror icons that have previously appeared in Fortnite's Halloween events, including Chucky, Art the Clown, Jason Voorhees, the Scooby-Doo gang and Poppy Playtime's Huggy Wuggy. Notably, players had already been building unofficial Five Nights at Freddy's recreations in Fortnite's Creative mode since 2023, well before this official partnership existed.

Why it matters

Fortnite crossovers regularly introduce a franchise to an audience of hundreds of millions, many of whom will be meeting Freddy and friends for the first time. Epic says more Fortnitemares reveals are still to come, so further details — including any additional modes or cosmetics — are expected before or shortly after the October 1 launch.
