Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and — for the first time in the series — Nintendo Switch 2. It's the twenty-third mainline Call of Duty and the fourth entry in the rebooted Modern Warfare sub-series.

What we know so far

The campaign is set on the Korean Peninsula, where a full-scale North Korean invasion threatens to spiral into a wider war. The story runs two parallel perspectives: Captain Price's off-book mission, and a rookie South Korean soldier named Private Park caught in the opening chaos — a more grounded, boots-on-the-ground framing than recent entries in the series.

Infinity Ward is calling this a genuine reset rather than a yearly refresh. A new "weapon-first" technology stack unifies aiming, weapon handling, audio, and visibility into what the studio describes as its most authentic Modern Warfare gunplay yet. Multiplayer ships with 12 new 6v6 maps on day one, a procedurally shifting map called Kill Block, and the return of the DMZ extraction mode from Modern Warfare II.

Platforms and access

Modern Warfare 4 is current-gen only — no PS4 or Xbox One versions. It won't be on Xbox Game Pass at launch, though Microsoft has said it will be added later. The Nintendo Switch 2 version arrives after the main console and PC launch window. Anyone who pre-orders the Standard Digital Edition or the Vault Edition gets Campaign Early Access from October 16, a week before launch.

Why it matters

Call of Duty releases every year almost like clockwork, but a self-described "reset" to gunplay and movement, plus the first-ever Switch 2 version, makes this one of the more closely watched entries in years.
