After more than a decade of speculation, Grand Theft Auto 6 has a release date that Rockstar has confirmed and reconfirmed on multiple earnings calls: November 19, 2026. It will be the first mainline entry in the series since Grand Theft Auto V, which came out all the way back in September 2013.

What we know so far

GTA 6 is set in Leonida, a fictionalized version of Florida built around a modern-day Vice City. The story follows two protagonists, Jason and Lucia, whose relationship Rockstar has said plays a real role in the plot without dominating it. The world reportedly includes more than 600,000 unique NPC animations, aimed at making the city feel like it's actually reacting to the player rather than just filling space.

The biggest reveal to date, Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, premiered on Netflix on August 27, 2026, before landing on Rockstar's own YouTube channel a few hours later. The 26-minute presentation was captured entirely on PlayStation 5 hardware and showed off seamless character switching, reworked gunplay and melee, and more grounded police behavior — Rockstar has said pursuits will be noticeably harder to shake than in past games.

Pre-loading opens November 12, 2026, and a launch trailer is widely expected to land around the same time, following the pattern Rockstar used for Red Dead Redemption 2.

Platforms

GTA 6 launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar hasn't announced a PC release date; based on how GTA V reached PC roughly 18 months after consoles, most analysts expect a 2027 or 2028 arrival. An online component is expected, but not at launch.

Editions and pre-orders

There are only two editions of the game itself. The Standard Edition costs $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition costs $99.99, adding premium vehicles, weapons, apparel and exclusive in-game shops. Rockstar confirmed both prices on June 24, 2026, and pre-orders opened the next day. Pre-loading starts November 12 for anyone who pre-orders.

The $400 Vice City Collection

On September 24, 2026, Rockstar announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection, a collector's box priced at $399.99 (£350). The catch is that it does not include the game — it's pure merchandise, and GTA 6 has to be bought separately, so the total with the Standard Edition comes to $479.99. It goes on sale through the Rockstar Store, ships from November 19, and Rockstar says stock is limited.

The theme is Macca the Gator, a fictional TV show in Leonida. The 11 items are:

  • A six-inch Macca the Gator figure with a hidden stash compartment in the base
  • GTA VI-branded Oakley Frogskins sunglasses with Prizm Sapphire lenses
  • A New Era 9FORTY snapback hat with Vice City Leonida branding
  • A Leonida Keys crossbody bag
  • A Macca the Gator magnetic mirror
  • A Chunkee the Manatee shot glass
  • A Vice City swizzle spoon
  • A Vice City razor blade keychain
  • A Leonida Keys enamel pin set in a metal tin
  • A Leonida Keys sticker pack in a stash bag
  • A double-sided souvenir poster that includes a map of Leonida

Reaction to the price has been sharply critical, and the box is not eligible for free shipping. Rockstar has also said more GTA 6 merchandise will appear on its store before launch, and pre-orders for a companion release, Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, opened on September 17.

Why it matters

Take-Two has tied an entire fiscal year's revenue guidance — $8 to $8.2 billion — directly to this single launch. Whatever else releases in November 2026, GTA 6 is expected to be the biggest entertainment release of the year in any medium.
