Square Enix announced Final Fantasy VII Revelation at Summer Game Fest in June 2026, and confirmed its release date — April 8, 2027 — alongside a substantial new gameplay reveal at a PlayStation State of Play in September. It's the third and final entry in the Remake trilogy, following Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020) and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (2024), closing out a project that will have taken nearly seven years from start to finish.

What we know so far

For the first time in this trilogy, Revelation launches simultaneously on PlayStation 5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, rather than arriving on PlayStation first and other platforms later. The story picks up from Rebirth's ending, sending Cloud and the party into a fully open world they can cross by airship — the Highwind — toward a final confrontation with Sephiroth.

Two previously support-only characters join the playable roster: Vincent, who fights in two distinct styles — human and a beast form — and Cid, the airship pilot. A new system called FITS lets players customize playstyles through uniforms that carry their own unique movesets, and a new dynamic character-switching feature lets you swap party members instantly while exploring, rather than only in combat.

The card minigame Queen's Blood returns with a new storyline built specifically around Red XIII, introducing opponents capable of altering the board state mid-match. Square Enix has also said player choices will shape how specific story events and side content unfold, aiming for a degree of personalized storytelling the first two games didn't attempt.

Editions and pre-orders

  • The digital Premium Edition includes the base game, a Story Expansion Pass, and Early Access — 24 hours before the official release.
  • The Trilogy Edition grants instant access to Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Rebirth right away, with Revelation unlocking on launch day.
  • A day-one physical edition includes a Magic: The Gathering — Final Fantasy crossover promo card, while supplies last.

Why it matters

This closes out one of the most ambitious remake projects in gaming — reworking a single 1997 RPG into three full-sized, decade-spanning releases. A simultaneous multi-platform launch, after two console-exclusive-first entries, is also a notable shift for Square Enix, and suggests the publisher wants as wide an audience as possible for the trilogy's ending.
