Apple introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at its “Surprise and shine” event on September 9, 2026, alongside its first foldable iPhone. Pre-orders opened September 12, and the phones went on sale September 18.

At a glance:

iPhone 18 Pro from €1,469 / $1,199, Pro Max from €1,619 / $1,299 (256GB, Spain pricing) — the Pro Max is $100 more than last year’s model in the US.

What's new

Both phones run Apple's new A20 Pro chip, built on a 2-nanometer process with a 6-core CPU, a 7-core GPU and a dual 16-core Neural Engine — Apple's first chip at this process node.

The headline camera upgrade is a DSLR-style variable aperture on the 48MP main sensor, adjustable from f/1.48 to f/4 with six blades, plus manual aperture and shutter controls for anyone who wants to shoot more deliberately. The rest of the rear system is a 48MP Ultra Wide and a 48MP periscope telephoto with 4x optical zoom. The front camera moves to 18MP with Center Stage.

New colors join the lineup, including a Dark Cherry finish, alongside light blue and silver.

Why it matters

A 2nm chip and a true variable-aperture camera are meaningful firsts for the iPhone line, not incremental spec bumps — and they arrive the same year Apple is also shipping its first foldable, making this one of the busier iPhone launches in years.
