Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra together on July 22, 2026, at a Galaxy Unpacked event in London, alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8. Both went on sale the same day the event was announced, with retail availability from August 5.
At a glance:
Z Fold 8 from €1,929 / $1,899 · Z Fold 8 Ultra from €1,780 / $2,099 (256GB).
Two different shapes, for the first time
Rather than a single tall foldable, the line now splits in two. The Z Fold 8 Ultra continues the familiar tall, book-style shape of the Z Fold 7, refined down to a 4.1mm folded thickness and 215g weight — making it one of the thinnest foldables Samsung has shipped. The standard Z Fold 8 is a genuinely new, wider 4:3 shape, aimed at a more compact, pocketable foldable rather than a scaled-down Ultra.

Why it matters
Splitting the Fold line into two shapes — rather than one size for everyone — is Samsung's biggest structural change to its foldables since the original Z Fold. It also lands the same year Apple entered the category with the iPhone Duo, giving Samsung's traditional foldable dominance its first real high-profile challenge.
